Data intelligence software developer Alation has launched an initiative to provide partners with assistance and incentives to develop links between the Alation data catalog platform and third-party data sources.

Open Connector Framework’s new partner program, part of the company Alation Partner Network The channel software builds on the company’s Open Connector Framework developer suite, which launched in 2021 and is used by customers, technology partners, and channel partners to develop connectors between Alation software and external data sources.

“These partners have the expertise. These are system integrators who have development stores that have deep expertise in specific platforms,” Raj Gosin, chief product officer at Alation, said in an interview with CRN.

“So rather than having to gain leverage and delve into those areas, we figured it made more sense for us to create an ecosystem of the best partners who can leverage their expertise and deliver the connectivity capabilities our clients are looking for,” said Goosen (pictured). “This gives [partners] Opportunity to participate in modern data stack and [gain] Reaching Alation’s nearly 500 customers.”

Alation’s Master Data Catalog software is used to help organizations find, understand, and manage the data in their IT environments. company, Part of the CRN Big Data 100 2022 List and headquartered in Redwood City, California, provides a suite of data intelligence offerings and applications around the data catalog system for data governance, quality, migration, and risk, as well as privacy and compliance tasks.

Alation provides about 80 out-of-the-box links to notable data sources including Amazon Web Services, Databricks, Snowflake, and Tableau. But the open link framework makes it possible for partners to build connectors to many sources — including relational databases, data analysis software, ETL/ELT and data path tools, file systems and cloud applications — to aggregate metadata into Alation’s data catalog, Gossain said.

Alation said that Information Asset, a data risk, governance and engineering firm headquartered in Old Tappan, NJ, and Logan Data, a cloud and data consulting firm headquartered in Westford, Massachusetts, are the first certified partners to join the Partner Program for the Open Connector framework.

“The enterprise’s inventory of data assets is highly diversified,” said Krishna Kodibuina, President, Logan Data, in a statement. “The amount of data produced from many different data sources cultivates an organization’s need to connect and integrate with the deepest and broadest data ecosystems. Our partnership with Alation, and its extensive and growing network of partners, enables joint customers to access important context about governed data from many data sources through a part One of the glass.”

“Bringing more data sources to Alation is vital in today’s highly connected technology ecosystem,” Sanjeev Varma, Chief Information Officer, Information Asset, also said in a statement. “Joining the Partner Program was an easy and very strategic decision that adds great value to our mutual customers.”

Goosen said Alation is looking for partners who are adept in software development and have a broad knowledge of the data sources they are developing links to.

“They need to be deeply familiar with the underlying data platforms they’re building connectors for, whether it’s a business intelligence tool, an ETL solution, a new database platform or maybe even a legacy database platform. … [They need to have] The Alation executive said familiarity with building modern application software, as well as familiarity with the underlying data platforms they will connect to.

Certified Partner Program for Open Connector Framework partners receive education and training, integration materials, sample code, and access to a sandbox development and testing environment. Goosen said Alation is in discussions with other system integrators and ISVs about joining the new program.

For the Partner for Open Connector Framework program, Alation expects to recruit solution providers that are already part of the Alation Partner Network’s channel program, such as Logan Data and Information Asset, as well as solution providers that are new to the Alation ecosystem, Gossen said. The number of partners in the new program is expected to be less than double digits.

We do not target hundreds of partners by any means. I think this is a specific program where we’re looking for partners who have deep expertise in major data platforms, whether it’s legacy data platforms or … modern data platforms, as well as software engineering expertise that we’ve highlighted,” he said.

The Open Connector Framework Partners Program is also associated with the Alation Open Data Quality Initiative, an effort launched in May 2022 to ally the company with developers of data quality management and data monitoring software and to connect the Alation data catalog to their products.
