Rival Colombian football fans, who used to hurl insults at each other in the stands, have united against a common enemy: Harry Styles. At stake is what will take place at the Bogotá football stadium on November 27: either the final of the Colombian football championship, or the last stage of the tournament. British pop star world tour.
Styles was scheduled to play in the parking lot of a theme park in the capital, but fans began a campaign on social media to move the concert after pop star Dua Lipa’s show there last weekend suffered logistical and technical problems.
Videos of the Dua Lipa parking party went viral with fans complaining about the crushing sound, the poor quality and ironically the lack of parking. The show was mocked online because people outside could see and hear better than those with tickets.
Police forced people to come down from trees outside the venue while organizers tried unsuccessfully to mask the view with trash bags.
“We got really upset watching the videos of the Dua Lipa concert, knowing it’s the same venue and the organizers as Harry. To see the patterns, says Lady Escobar, who will be taking her daughter on the 24-hour drive to the capital from Pasto, a town near the Colombia-Ecuador border, It was a miracle there was no greater tragedy. “We need to change this because it is not suitable for Harry’s fans, but above all, for him – all his talent and his wonderful artist.”
The sticking point is that the first leg of the Colombian Football Championship final is scheduled to take place on the same day and El Campin is home to Bogotá’s two biggest football clubs, Millionaires and Independiente Santa Fe. The Millonarios have already qualified for the knockout stage and their arch-rivals are still in contention.
Now the two teams’ supporters – who used to clash with each other through chants in the stands – have joined forces to battle teenage fans and concerned moms on Twitter threads and TikTok videos.
While football fans argue that El Campín should be strictly reserved for the sport, Styles fans say the stadium should be for everyone. Online polls suggest the Stylers vastly outnumber football fans, and fervent Santa Fe supporter Luis Fernando Doñas Bayona fears money earned from the concert could persuade local authorities to force clubs to play the final at the dilapidated Techo Stadium Which can accommodate 8000 people. On the edge of the capital or in Tonga, which is about 75 miles away in another province.
“the curse Harry StilesDoñas Bayona says. “It is not fair to the clubs and the fans. The money will go to the lawns and the Bogota region but who cares about the football teams? Nobody. Only the fans.”
The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia Lopez, has taken up the Stylers’ case and asked the Colombian Football League to reschedule matches. But with the few big places in Bogota booked, there’s no wiggle room.
Lopez’s office has not commented on why she joined #HarryAlCampin campaign and whether a fan of patterns.
The county’s Institute of Leisure and Sports said the event organizer is currently reviewing alternative venues observer.
International business touring the Americas often bypassed Colombia at the end of the last century, when the Andean country was notorious for drug cartel violence, but has visited more than once in recent years. Coldplay and strokes recently played the capitaland Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Killers are booked for the upcoming months.
The country’s music fans have often criticized the integrity of the promoters, who accuse them of making money out of the desperation of Colombians to see their musical idols.
They claim that Colombian concerts are poorly organized and say tickets often cost more than half the minimum monthly wage.
“When Harry Styles, the world’s biggest artist, plays in New York, he’s booked 15 nights at Madison Square Gardensaid Juan Diego Pérez, a 19-year-old student and Styles fanatic from Bogota. “When he comes to Colombia, they push us all into the parking lot!”
