Lubrizol® and Eaton® announce collaboration to accelerate development of turnkey sustainable immersion cooling systems

WICKLIFFE, Ohio – () — The Eaton Corporation® and The Lubrizol Corporation® have announced a collaboration designed to accelerate the development of reliable and sustainable immersion cooling solutions for data centers, artificial intelligence, and advanced and remote computing applications, today and in the future.

“This partnership will leverage CompuZol™’s market-leading family of patented thermal management immersion fluids, designed and engineered specifically for data centers and related applications, Eaton’s leadership in the data center market and a comprehensive portfolio of products, services, engineering and manufacturing,” said Matt Joyce, Vice President, New Corporate Business Development at Lubrizol “Both companies are committed to increasing energy efficiency and delivering sustainable solutions for data centers and digital infrastructure.”

“Eaton is committed to supporting the latest physical infrastructure solutions that require the next level of cooling, whether it’s high-performance computing in the data center or remote computing sites that deal with a harsh environment. Lubrizol’s thermal management fluids are the perfect solution to meet these new challenges and facilitate the deployment of workloads. Modern Information Technology,” said Hervé Tarde, Vice President, Strategy and Marketing at Eaton CPDI.

Globally, traditional, cloud, and ultra-wideband data centers consume an estimated 150 to 200 TWh of electricity annually, with up to a third to half used for conventional cooling and HVAC systems. With most of the world’s electricity still coming from fossil fuel-based generation sources, the need to reduce power consumption in data centers is urgent.

Cooling servers by immersing them in specially formulated thermal management fluids in advanced server cabinets provides a more sustainable and superior cooling approach, along with increased computing density, energy efficiency, longer server life and deployment flexibility. Immersion cooling also increases access to greater computing power in regions of the world where standard air-cooled data centers are challenged by high ambient temperatures or poor air quality.

Lubrizol and Eaton will participate in the upcoming Open Compute Project Global Summit, October 18-20, 2022, in San Jose, California.
